Founders Classical Academy of Lewisville (Class of 2018)

Chaz currently attends Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York and is majoring in Materials Science and Engineering. This year he is excited to be in Minds and Machines, a course that discusses the philosophy and ethics of the mind in relation to technology such as artificial intelligence.

Ethics and the importance of demonstrating character is something that Chaz learned while at Founders Classical Academy of Lewisville, which follows a democratic classical model using Core Knowledge curriculum based in classical liberal arts and sciences with a strong emphasis on civic education.

I appreciate how Founders exposed us to a wide variety of amazing and thought-provoking literature,” says Chaz. “I am very grateful to Mr. Brogden for leading the Lynx Science Academy organization on campus which connected me with Dr. Verbeck, who I interned  for during the summer before senior year.”

Following college, Chaz plans on entering the United States Navy as an officer and is proud to have received the NROTC scholarship.

One of Chaz’s favorite quotes, which is from C.S. Lewis, further cements his dedication to ethics, “Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil.”
