Senior year it is time to analyze all the hard work and research. Look at lists of scholarships available from different groups. Which scholarships do they qualify for? Apply to a range of schools not just the ones they know they can get into or afford. Here is a Senior year college preparation checklist with a few things students can do to prepare.

  • Research the college application process and how to choose a college
  • Attend local college fairs
  • Take challenging classes in high school
  • Make an overnight visit to the top colleges once accepted
  • Practice college application essays and ask teachers for feedback

  • Gather applications to the schools under consideration
  • Check deadlines
  • Research scholarships and housing
  • Research the school’s admission criteria
  • Ask people to write letters of recommendation (give them enough time)
  • Request transcripts
  • Take the ACT/SAT
  • Apply for early admission

  • Apply for admission
  • Apply for scholarships

  • Take any AP exams applicable
  • Apply for financial aid (as soon after Jan. 1 as possible)
  • Take CLEP/AP Tests (if applicable)
  • Visit the top schools again
  • Send thank you notes for letters of recommendation
  • Request the high school to send final transcripts to the college of choice
