In Texas, police departments are seeing the benefits of establishing effective partnerships with a broad spectrum of entities within our communities. These partnerships have lasting benefits that not only solve problems but build trusting relationships that help our communities flourish.

Edinburg Police Department visits Edinburg Classical Academy.

In 2018, Governor Greg Abbott created the School and Firearm Safety Action Plan. One of the key components of this plan is the initiation of partnerships between law enforcement and our schools. Seizing on this opportunity, Edinburg Classical Academy Campus Director Elizabeth Alaniz,  took the initiative to reach out to the Edinburg Police Department for assistance. “All it took was a phone call and the rest took care of itself.”

Hardly a day goes by where her school is not visited by the local police in a positive way. Alaniz has stated that two of the officers that patrol the area were kind enough to provide their cell phone numbers to her in the event she needs their assistance. As a result of this relationship, two of the police officer’s children have enrolled at our school.

Thank you, Mrs. Alaniz, for taking a moment from your busy day to initiate this lasting relationship. As you can see, the benefits were certainly worth the time invested. Here is hoping to more great stories like this that promote safety and partnerships at all of our ResponsiveEd schools.
