This past summer was a busy time dedicated to service for current senior at Premier High School of Granbury Aedan Roberts. Not only did he attend Texas Boys State, but he also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout by completing his Eagle Project.

At Texas Boys State he was elected to the Texas Senate and was greatly involved in the economics committee.

“The biggest thing I learned was the process congressmen have to go through to get bills through. Attending Texas Boys State allowed me to see first-hand how the Texas congress functions and the processes bills go through,” says Roberts.

In addition to learning about public service, as his Eagle Project, Roberts helped out his local community by building shelves and cabinets for the local YMCA’s aquatics closet.

“The local YMCA has a new location and they didn’t have a great way to store their aquatics equipment. So I led a team of eight people to build high quality shelves and cabinets as well as organize the equipment,” Roberts explains.

This school year Roberts is focusing on his academics in order to get into a major university where he can major in mathematics and minor in political science.

“I would like to go to a top school like Harvard, Yale or Vanderbilt. I am looking at programs like QuestBridge that help-low income students get into top colleges,” says Roberts.

As he starts on college and scholarship applications, Roberts is grateful for the smaller campus environment provided by the Premier High School model. It has allowed him to build relationships with his teacher and receive individualized attention.

“I think it really goes back to the teachers. I have always been able to talk with my teachers even when my questions weren’t specifically about what we were doing in class. They have given me advice and wrote letters of recommendation for me. They really know me and several of my teachers have been mentors. I think if I went to a different school that I wouldn’t have been able to develop those relationships,” says Roberts.
