Not necessarily. Successful careers come in many shapes and sizes and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/responsiveed.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ResponsiveEd<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> schools use their <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/resedblog.wpengine.com\/what-is-cte-2\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Career and Technical Education<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (CTE) program to equip students with the valuable career skills needed to establish their own version of success.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/premierhighschools.com\/elpasoeast\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Premier High School &#8211; El Paso (Eastpointe)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> teacher Brenda Alcantar decided to host the school\u2019s first\u00a0 \u2018Successful Friday\u2019 video with retired educator and dance historian <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rosaguerrero.com\/Rosa\/Bio.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rosa Guerrero<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. After the interview, students were able to provide feedback, many expressing their interest in learning about a vast array of career paths.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOur original idea was to showcase popular people from the El Paso area,\u201d said Alcantar. \u201cWe later found out that students wanted to learn more about\u00a0 careers that struck their curiosity.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">From Diesel mechanics to local newscasters and small business owners, students at Premier High School &#8211; El Paso (Eastpointe) have the opportunity to ask pertinent questions about their desired careers. Once COVID regulations relaxed enough to allow students back into the classroom, several students were able to take the school\u2019s video editing course. The course instructs students in the planning, shooting, and editing of their monthly \u2018Successful Friday\u2019 videos.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI enjoy learning how to make and edit videos,\u201d says student Fernando Castillo. \u201c Allowing people to tell their story through film has helped me better understand others.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/premierhighschools.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0Premier High School<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> model allows teachers to use creative means to meet the needs of students. While the initial goal was to find a special way to interact with students, Premier High School- El Paso (Eastpointe) teachers allowed this opportunity to evolve into something more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe ultimate goal for \u2018Successful Friday\u2019 videos is for students to run the entire production from hosting to video editing,\u201d says Campus Director Osvaoldo Morales. \u201c Hopefully, in the next school year, we can expand their project to a complete school news production.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/responsiveednewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/PHS-El-Paso-East-Weather-Broadcast.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3899 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/responsiveednewsroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/PHS-El-Paso-East-Weather-Broadcast-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/emp\/tables\/fastest-growing-occupations.htm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, film and video editing is projected to be one of the fastest-growing occupations from now until 2029. This fact allows students to take their valuable CTE skills, like the ones being taught here, to empower students with the options needed to make their own career decisions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe named the video series \u2018Successful Friday\u2019 because this is how we show students different avenues to success,\u201d says Alcantar. \u201cWe teach students that success is not about a job title.
